
Haitians Protest on 4 Year Anniversary of Invasion
February 29, 2008Over 10,000 people protested in Haiti on February 29--the four year anniversary of the U.S. Marines invasion and ouster of the elected, constitutional President Jean-Bertrand Arisitide. Lavalas, the political party of Aristide, called the demonstration which took place despite brutal repression and mass arrests by U.N. troops prior to the planned protests. The people's demands included an end to the U.S./U.N. occupation, the return of exiled President Aristide, freedom for all politial prisoners, and an end to political murders and repression. Solidarity actions took place in over 50 cities throughout the world.
