Iraq Under Military-Colonial Occupation
March 17, 2013
10 years after the U.S. launched its aggressive war on Iraq, the U.S. continues to impose military-colonial rule on the country and wage a 'low intensity' counter-insurgency war aimed at suppressing any opposition.
Currently there are 12,500 security personnel employed through U.S. government agencies charged with providing intelligence and other direct assistance to counter-insurgency operations. Many U.S. security personnel are embedded with the 700,000 member Iraqi military as trainers and advisers. In addition, U.S. officials are serving terms in ministries of the Iraqi government.
The counter-insurgency war serves the exploiting, colonial aims of the U.S. monopoly capitalist class. Today U.S. imperialism is demanding that Iraq submit to the so-called free market system and open its economy to unfettered exploitation by the U.S. multinational corporations.
