War and Occupation in Iraq

July 19, 2010

On July 13, the U.S. military commander in Iraq, General Ray Odierno, once again admitted that the U.S. military intends to keep at least 50,000 U.S. troops in Iraq for the long-term. The U.S. military will not only continue to wage war against anti-occupation forces, but will also direct Iraqi military forces.

At the same time, he tried to explain away the ongoing war against the Iraqi people by labeling the groups targeted by occupation forces as "foreign infiltrators" and "terrorists."

By repeating this tired refrain, U.S. imperialism is attempting to justify its suppression of the Iraqi political opposition and explain away the resistance of the Iraqi people.

Our response to this can only be: "U.S., Out of Iraq, Now!"
