Hundreds of Pakistani Civilians Killed

April 21, 2009

The extension of the war into Pakistan is resulting in many atrocities. According to figures compiled by Pakistani authorities American Predator drone missile attacks into Pakistan killed 701 people between January 14, 2006 and April 8, 2009. 687 were civilians. Thousands more have been injured.

Since February of this year alone, the missile attacks have killed 122 people and the attacks are escalating. Missile strikes were recently extended into the Orakzai region and U.S. officials have proposed to broaden the target area further. U.S. officials are also threatening to target Pakistani cities. Richard Holbrooke, the U.S. Special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan has called the Pakistani city of Quetta the probable "headquarters of Taliban leaders."

The U.S. escalation of the war and ongoing killing of civilians must steel the determination of the American people to redouble our efforts to end this aggressive war.
