U.S. Imperialism is the Source of Israeli Aggression!
The Israeli government, with the full backing of the U.S., is continuing its war against the Palestinian people.
During the last 4 weeks, the Israeli army has repeatedly opened fire on unarmed demonstrations and bombed residential areas, killing more than 130 Palestinians and wounding 7,000. Last week, Israel's Prime Minister Barak, announced plans to step up this war by "taking the offensive" and "wiping out" the most organized sectors of the Palestinian people's resistance movement. Every day, more Palestinians are being killed.
This war is being financed and supported by the U.S. Last week, the U.S. Congress approved $4.1 billion in military and economic aid for Israel for the coming year. On October 25, Congress, by a nearly unanimous vote, passed a special resolution to "express its solidarity with the state and people of Israel at this time of crisis."
Yet even while Israel and the U.S. wage this war, the capitalist politicians and monopoly-controlled media keep insisting that it is the Palestinian people who are "violent" and responsible for the current situation. This is nothing but a Big Lie campaign. It is obvious to anyone who wants to see that it is Israeli helicopters and armored vehicles which are killing the people while the Palestinians' "weapons" are mass demonstrations and rocks hurled at professional soldiers.
Part and parcel of this Big Lie campaign is the attempt to hide the very source of violence is the fact that for more than 50 years Israel has occupied, by force of arms, the national homeland of the Palestinians, imposed military rule on the people and carried out a program of genocide, of trying to liquidate the Palestinian nation. What is at stake are the inalienable, sovereign rights of the Palestinian people to end Israeli occupation and colonization and live in their own independent state.
A second Big Lie is the attempt of the U.S. government to paint itself as the "honest broker" seeking "peace" between the Palestinians and Israel. The facts are that the U.S. has not only chosen the Israeli side, it is the Israeli side. The state of Israel can only carry out its aggression and occupation because of the support of U.S. imperialism. Israel could well be called the 51st state of the U.S. -- it is a U.S. military base anchoring imperialism's interests in the strategic Middle East. It is a dagger stabbed in the heart of the Arab peoples by the U.S. oil monopolies who want to keep plundering the vast oil wealth of the peoples. All of U.S. imperialism's talk about "peace" and "negotiations" is designed only to hide its aggression and demand that the Palestinian people give up any resistance to Israeli occupation. The fact is neither U.S. imperialism nor Israeli zionism have ever recognized -- even in words -- the sovereign right of the Palestinian people to their own independent state on their historic homeland.
In direct opposition to the U.S. government, the American people must and do support the Palestinian liberation struggle. This is a vital and necessary part of our struggle against U.S. imperialism and for a genuinely democratic foreign policy.
The immediate task is the rally the broadest sections of people to demand the cutoff of all U.S. economic and military aid to Israel. This task is a component part of building up a broad, popular front against war and imperialism. Such a popular front is needed to assert the political will of the American people -- our deep aspiration for a world of peace in which the sovereignty of every nation is recognized - in opposition to and struggle against the monopoly capitalist class which lives by war and colonialism. This is the way to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Palestinian people and all the peoples fighting the common struggle against the common enemy -- U.S. imperialism.
