Will the Palestinian Struggle Turn the Tide?

(April 11, 2002)

For the last 6 months, Palestine has been the second major front in U.S. imperialism's "war against international terrorism." While U.S. troops invaded and occupied Afghanistan, Bush called on his surrogate, Israeli zionism (armed and financed by the U.S.) to wage war against Palestine.

The Palestinian liberation struggle had long been a thorn in the side of U.S. imperialism and that is why Bush was so quick to condemn the Palestinians as "terrorists," insisting in the manner of all slavemasters, that the oppressed and colonized peoples have no right to fight for their liberation. Bush's "war against international terrorism" is his declaration that no one will be allowed to resist the dictates and domination of U.S. imperialism.

But the Palestinian people have resisted. And, in resisting, the Palestinians are not only fighting for their national rights but throwing themselves into the forefront of the worldwide struggle against imperialism.

Already the Palestinian struggle is undermining U.S. plans to attack Iraq and galvanizing the peoples to come out in opposition to Bush's "new world order."

The people's are coming out to express the conscience of humanity in opposition to the state-terrorism and genocide of the U.S.-Israeli aggressors. In opposition to Israeli occupation, people are insisting on the right of very nation to independence and reaffirming the decisive role of the liberation struggles of the oppressed peoples.

The Palestinian struggle is calling forth the humanity of all of us. And in answering this call, the peoples are strengthening an international front against war and fascism. The peoples are proving that "another world is possible" -- that, through struggle, we can bring into being a world of peace and friendship, a world which recognizes the sovereign equality of all nations and peoples, and which eliminates, once and for all, the plagues of colonialism, fascism, war and imperialism.
