U.S. Hostile Policy Towards Venezuela Lassos in Greater Property Interests
August 12, 2019 – Donald Trump recently signed an Executive Order covering a more comprehensively defined area of the Venezuelan economy than previous sanctions by declaring that any Venezuelan property the Pentagon and U.S. State Department could capture would be seized.
According to the August 5 Executive Order, "All property and interests in property of the Government of Venezuela that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States, or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of any United States person are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in."
The August 5 Executive Order entitled "Blocking Property of the Government of Venezuela," is the latest in a series of increasingly hostile steps taken by successive U.S. administrations against Venezuela, where the Pentagon and U.S. State Department are actively organizing to overthrow the elected, constitutional government. The U.S. hostile, neo-colonial policy aims to trample on the sovereignty of Venezuela, provoke tensions in the world and impose U.S. dictate.
For 20 years, the American people have demanded an end to the aggression of U.S. imperialism against Venezuela. The people of Venezuela have taken a stand against neo-liberal economics and IMF-dictated austerity programs and have built an on-going popular movement which is bringing about important changes in the country's post-colonial economic and political system.
Anti-imperialist politics recognizes the right of nations to organize their societies as they see fit. The U.S. government's illegal and inhuman policy of attempting to squeeze the lifeblood out of the Venezuelan economy must be brought to an end. The U.S. must end its embargo and interference against Venezuela and enter into normal relations with the Venezuelan government and people.
